This week’s cover art came to us from a returning favorite: Carol Luz. He is one of 40 local artists participating in the Southampton Artists Association’s Art in the Park event this weekend, July 16–17 from 10 am – 6 pm daily, at Agawam Park in Southampton Village. There are many fun Hamptons elements in this piece. Tell us about this week’s inspiration and cover name.

Aren’t all Hamptons dogs lying in the pool in flip flops, drinking Montauk Ale, reading Papers of Dan? This is Marty the bull terrier. Marty was my inspiration. He spends his summer weekends in the Hamptons. She loves to just chill by the pool and catch up on local events, stories, art, celeb news and real estate by reading Papers of Dan. He especially wanted to know when the next event at Dan’s Taste would be. GrillHampton is his favorite! He hopes to meet Bethenny Frankel at one of these events to get some business
tips.

Yes, there are a lot of fun Hamptons elements in this piece, the pool, the sun, the flip flops. I decided on a previous cover I did Papers of Dan of my friend’s dogs acting as lifeguards (“Hot Dogs No Buns”). This cover looks pretty popular, so why not do it again? The back cover is the same as what is on the lifeguard issue. I just changed a little bit. The Hamptons are where dogs go to play! And I had to add Montauk Ale for his chosen drink.

This piece is called “Dog Days of Summer.” This is linen oil that is 30 ″ x 24.

What makes this piece a perfect choice for Dan’s Papers cover art?

This piece is a perfect choice for Papers of Dan because it showcases the Hamptons summer lifestyle – from a dog’s perspective. Hampton dogs are very special and appreciated. They drive a Mercedes convertible, you know.

We’re excited to hear you’ll be participating in Southampton’s Art in the Park event this weekend. What are you most looking forward to about it?

I’m most looking forward to see my friends who will be there selling their artwork as well and catching up. This is the first time I will be doing the show in Southampton. I’m excited to see how it goes. I have heard many good things about it. I’m also glad it’s in the water! We will have a breeze! Please stop by – I’m going to booth 43!
